Steampunk Redhead
Hello Great Ones!
I have only just discovered Steampunk and would love to know more about the culture. I am impressed with the level of ingenuity in costumes. One young woman in a costume contest I judged at a Con made her top hat out of an oatmeal box and from that moment, I was hooked. I've been sewing costumes from Elizabethan portraiture for 22 years and am often asked to judge costume contests at cons as well as give several panels. I have 45 different panels I teach, including character creation and how to make clothes instead of costumes. I have extensive research and fitting skills and make my own patterns.
I can't wait to learn more about Steampunk and what I can accomplish!

STEAMPUNK PICTURES!
Steampunk is the intersection of technology and romance. It's fashion, an aesthetic, a genre of fiction, and musical style.
Some fans of the genre adopt a steampunk aesthetic through fashion, home decor, music, and film. This may be described as neo-Victorianism, which is the amalgamation of Victorian aesthetic principles with modern sensibilities and technologies. Some have proposed a steampunk philosophy, sometimes with punk-inspired anti-establishment sentiments, and typically bolstered by optimism about human potential.
Steampunk fashion has no set guidelines, but tends to synthesize modern styles influenced by the Victorian era. This may include gowns, corsets, petticoats and bustles; suits with vests, coats and spats; or military-inspired garments. Steampunk-influenced outfits will often be accented with a mixture of technological and period accessories: timepieces, parasols, goggles and ray guns. Modern accessories like cell phones or music players can be found in steampunk outfits, after being modified to give them the appearance of Victorian-made objects.
